Don Diego is a stellar brand that's been around since your Great Grandma was just a girl! Known as the "King of Mild," the brand has upheld a strict standard of quality, and the cigars are superbly constructed to ensure a consistently delicious flavor. Hand-rolled in La Romana, Dominican Republic, the Don Diego Grande Maduro Torpedo you're about to enjoy this month is made with a dark and juicy Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, Dominican binder, and a blend of Dominican-grown long fillers. The Don Diego Maduro line is unquestionably well constructed and its handsome wrapper adds a slightly spicy and more flavorful taste to this Dominican smoke. This excellent Torpedo has a creamy texture and nice balance. A classic cigar, Don Diego is always a dependable premium brand. Consider smoking it with a traditional Bavarian Hefeweizen beer or full-bodied Merlot.

The Encanto line has a bit of history behind it. It was first introduced back in 1964 and was the first cigar manufactured in Honduras. To this day, it is still made exactly as it was back in 1964. It seems appropriate that its name translates to mean "enchanted". This is a Honduran puro in every sense of the word; while the tobaccos are Cuban seed, they are all grown on one farm, including the wrapper. As far as we know this is the only cigar still using this wrapper. Look for a near perfect draw in this rich, oily, full-bodied Churchill. A fine long white ash indicates the tobacco to be aged properly. Note a spicy, rich aroma that follows a nutty, slightly spicy flavor. We liked this smoke very much and hope you do as well. Consider pairing this smoke with a full-bodied, dry, roasted Stout.

Santa Damiana is a mild, smooth cigar constructed a very light, Connecticut shade-grown wrapper, a Mexican binder, and a blend of Dominican and Mexican filler tobaccos. Not to be confused with the standard Connecticut shade Santa Damiana or the Cabinet Selection; this Santa Damiana is rolled with a Habana 2000 wrapper, Nicaraguan binders, and a complex long leaf blend of Dominican, Brazilian and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The wrapper is a smooth, reddish-brown leaf that has many similar characteristics of Connecticut shade. Look for spicy, expressive, earthy aromas, with hints of grass. Note a touch of peppery spiciness in the flavor that extends all the way through to a smooth, dry finish. Overall, a mellow cigar that you can fire up any time of the day. A fruity Chardonnay or Margarita would pair up nicely with this Torbusto.

The Griffin's line of cigars is made in the Dominican Republic by Davidoff. Davidoff cigars maintain well-defined standards of quality and excellence. The tobaccos that are used in the different blends have been cultivated in accordance with the most ancient traditions, in the richest soils and ideal climatic conditions of carefully selected fields. The choicest leaves from various harvests undergo four years of aging, which imparts to Davidoff cigars their rich aroma and consistently smooth taste. Davidoff cigars are handmade in the Dominican Republic, where for over five centuries this art has been passed on from generation to generation. We found the Griffin corona to be a mild-to-medium-bodied smoke. It was constructed perfectly using a blend of Dominican long filler and binder tobaccos, all encased in a handsome, flawless Connecticut shade wrapper. Look for notes of coffee beans, nuts, and spices. Halfway through though, its flavor heads more towards a slight woodiness. Consider pairing it with a very light single malt scotch or your favorite Pilsner. You're going to love this smoke!

The Adolphus Torpedo featured this month is truly a delicious smoke that was blended for you in Esteli, Nicaragua by none other than Henry "Kiki" Berger. For those who don't know Kiki, he's the mastermind who blended Cupido and 5 Vegas cigars. Kiki is a legend in Esteli, almost as much for his massive 400lb. frame as for his cigar making skills. After less than five years in Nicaragua, Kiki is one of those unique personalities that always seem to know and be liked by everyone. Born in Cuba, he moved to the U.S. as a child and got involved in politics in Miami. It was, in fact, the president of Nicaragua that convinced Kiki to open his factory there! This Torpedo is the culmination of several fine tobaccos including a select blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers and highlighted by a dark and rich Sumatran wrapper. A spicy, yet sweet taste is ever-present in this medium to full-bodied beauty. Consider pairing it with a creamy Irish Stout.
