Leaf lovers, our humidors have been struck with a very special shipment. This month we explore the glory of the Dominican Republic. Origin of a majority of the worlds premium cigars, the Dominican Republic boasts some the most suitable climates for tobacco crops. The end result is ultimately over 500 brands with varying sizes, shapes, color, blend, and strength. We know youll adore this months sample of some of the Dominicans finest premium hand-rolled cigars.
Along with the Dominican Republic being the dominant source of the worlds premium cigars, the Connecticut shade wrapper carries an equal amount of tradition in that it is the wrapper to so many of the Dominican brands. Our first selection of the month is no exception. Produced with more than a century of experience in the manufacturing of handmade cigars, the Dominican No. 5 from Cuesta-Rey is exemplary of some of the finest productions of an all Dominican filler blend, Dominican binder, and CT shade wrapper. The Cuesta-Rey Dominican No. 5 is mild to medium bodied, but offers extraordinary smoking pleasure in a size thats so easy to enjoy.
And how could we ever forget our friends at El Credito. Finally, after innumerable requests and months of waiting we bring you the El Rico Habano, Habano Club. Habano Club comes from the same producers of the La Gloria Cubana cigars and is currently surpassing El Creditos flagship brand. The Habano Club is one of the main reasons why. Few ratings in the Cigar Aficionado magazine begin with, "This is an excellent cigar." We could not agree more with this comment or its 90 rating. The Habano Club meets the growing demand for more fuller-bodied and complex flavored cigars.
Montecruz by Dunhill is most famous for the silky feel and rich taste of its Sun Grown Java wrapper. This wrapper is accented in the latest craze from the Montecruz Sun Grown line. With an 87 rating from Cigar Aficionado Magazine, the Montecruz Sun Grown Cedar Aged corona offering a generally mild feel but distinct woody character, makes a unique addition to any well stocked humidor.
Oliveros cigars have been produced in one form or another since 1927. The current edition of the Oliveros Maestro torpedo is simply beautiful and delicious. To write anything more here would just be giving it all away. Consider trying this one first to get you in the mood.
There are times when we are surprised by how a cigar smokes, and then there are times when we are just plain shocked. Our last review of the month is of a cigar that has been overlooked when it comes to premium hand-rolled cigars. Id say we were not only shocked, but impressed by a brand name that is most famous for its machine produced cigars. Well, Topper Cigars premium line from the Dominican Republic has made quite a mark in the premium market. Enjoy the Topper Toro to the nub while checking out our neighbors extensive write-up online at http://www.smokemag.com, or in the Summer Issue of SMOKE Magazine.
